The Road

I don't really know why i wanted to make an illustration for the book. It's a very realistic story, and doesn't need to be stylized at all. I think the lack of shadows in the descriptions probably had something to do with it. I kind of do that anyway, so i figured it might go ok. Mostly i just wanted to spend more time thinking about the book after i'd finished reading it.

awesome man, interesting that you focused on the environment more than the father and son. I think you nailed the mood

Great work Jon. Wonderful use of textures. I guess that goes for all your work.

Hey Jon,

I just finished this book myself 2 days ago, so it's strange to see you posting about it so soon after! I've been debating about making some art inspired by the story as well. I really like your interpretation.

Superb! Recently read the book too-u've captured the bleak tone & the relationship between father & son very economically. I'm intrigued to see the movie version withy Viggo Morteneson.

Nice work Jon. You are a master of rendering trees and ground. Did you ever get a new computer?

oh my, just stumbled upon this. I'm only about halfway through the book, but I've been imagining it as completely bleak and grey. I forgot how much snow brightens a landscape, no matter how destroyed it is. This is a great image to keep with me as I finish.

How strange, for my second year summer project I have to create images inspired by 'The Road'. I saw this image on the 'Its Nice That' website and thought it illustrate the book really well... And that's actually what you'd been doing anyway. I love it. I love the imagery he gives about all the falling ash I hope I can capture it as well as you have :)
